The Aging Epi Research Group: Advancing research on chronic disease in older adults

Hailey Banack, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Epidemiology Division at the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Novo Nordisk Professor in Chronic Disease and Health Equity

WELCOME FROM THE AGING EPI!

As the Principal Investigator of the Aging Epi Research Group, I'd like to welcome you to our website!

Our research team is comprised of individuals interested in studying obesity, body composition, and chronic disease risk in diverse populations of older adults. We use rigorous methodological approaches to conduct epidemiologic research on aging.

Recent Work

Our group publishes research in top journals in epidemiology, public health, and medicine

Obesity in older adults

The Aging Epi Research Group recently developed BMI-for-age percentile curves to measure obesity in older adults

Remote measurement of muscle mass using
D3-Creatine

As part of her NIH-funded research program, Dr. Banack developed a highly successful protocol for the remote collection of D3-Creatine (D3Cr) to measure muscle mass remotely in a large sample of community dwelling older women

Epidemiologic methods

Recent work has focused on exploring methods for modernizing case-control studies and application of causal inference approaches in aging research

Web-based application for bias analysis

To increase the uptake of quantitative bias analysis approaches, Dr. Banack and the team describe a web-based application to examine sources of misclassification, selection bias and confounding
